You might think that since Flash and Illustrator are both vector-based programs, artwork created in Illustrator would export painlessly into Flash. Not so in previous versions.
Symbols usage is a major part of Flash development and Illustrator has been able to create symbols since version 10 but there were many shortfalls in integration. In Illustrator CS3, you simply double-click on a symbol to edit it (or you can define symbols by pressing F8, just like Flash). Illustrator CS3 lets you define a symbol as graphic or movie clip. If your goal is to bring Illustrator artwork into Flash, you can simply paste it in. All paths, strokes, gradients, text (specify Flash Text), masks, effects (such as drop shadows), and symbols are preserved. Otherwise, check out the many Export options.
